Doug Pellerin has been playing drums for 17 years and playing in bands for over ten years. Doug’s fast feet earned him the title of “World’s Fastest Feet” in 2002, when he beat his bass drum 874 times in one minute!

Those fast feet were just what a red hot upcoming singer named Otep was looking for in 2003 when she asked Doug to join her heavy metal band, OTEP.

OTEP was formed in Los Angeles in 2000, when lead singer, and the band’s namesake, Otep put together a group of talented musicians who were quickly signed to Capitol Records. Their first EP Jihad was met with critical acclaim and was followed in 2002 by their debut full length CD Seva Tra. The band performed on the OzzFest tour in 2002 and 2004, attracting audiences with their mesmerizing mix of aggressive heavy metal and evocative lyrics. The band consists of lead singer and lyricist Otep, Lee Rios on guitar, eViL j on bass and Doug Pellerin on drums. The band released their second studio CD, House of Secrets in July 2004. Pellerin joined the band in 2003, playing in the studio on House of Secrets. His aggressive high-energy drumming has powered the band since the day he joined.

Doug is touring and recording on a Mapex Saturn drum set. His extreme hard and fast style of play was perfect for the Saturn. Its maple and walnut shell construction delivers the thunderous tone capable of driving the music of OTEP.

Doug also wanted an auxiliary snare with plenty of crunch, so he chose the Black Panther 13 x 5.5 Hand Hammered Steel Snare. If you see an OTEP performance, you’ll instantly recognize the “crack” that the Black Panther adds to his repertoire.

Doug lists Virgil Donati, Joey Jordison, Thomas Lang, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Mike Portnoy and Terry Bozzio as his influences.

Chris Adler was born in Washington, DC on November 23, 1972. As a toddler, Chris began playing with broken sticks from his backyard on his parents coffee cans. As he grew he studied years of piano with his mother, saxophone and acoustic guitar before settling on playing bass for several high school bands and recording projects.

Once in college at Virginia Commonwealth University beginning in 1990 Chris quickly met up with musicians in the local area (Richmond, VA). Chris played bass on several records and toured the U.S. from ’91-‘94. When at home, Chris tinkered with his first “trading post” drum kit in his apt. bedroom while the neighbors were at work, but nothing serious developed until the end of 1994. In September of that year, Chris met back up with several members of his freshman dorm year experience interested in starting a band. A bass player was already in the mix, so Chris decided to put the bass back in the case and turn to the drums full-time. The learning curve was extreme for the progressive metal act, soon to be named, “Burn the Priest.”

Burn the Priest recorded two 7-inch records, one 14 song full length CD and played hundreds of shows across the US in their 5-1/2 year career. Chris’s drumming helped drive the band and his unorthodox playing choices and agility garnered much attention and praise. The band became the most downloaded metal band of all time on the now defunct MP3.com which caught the attention of several record labels. The band knew that they were breaking the seams of the underground scene and forced themselves to take a leap of faith.

In the winter of 1999, the band replaced a guitar player, changed their name to LAMB OF GOD and signed with Prosthetic records. By September 2000, the groups’ debut CD New American Gospel was in stores and Chris was quickly approached for his first article in Modern Drummer Magazine. Chris’s atypical style, timing and speed combined with the progressive guitar work made this release stand out from the many of the underground cookie cutter metal bands of the time. Two years on the road followed with Chris continuing a rigorous practice schedule throughout.

In May of 2003 the band released its sophomore effort As the Palaces Burn. Chris’s playing had vastly matured and his phenomenal performance on this album helped push sales over 100,000 copies, land the band in Rolling Stone, claim the Record of the Year Award for 2003 in Revolver Magazine and put the band in contention for a Grammy nomination in the Hard Rock category. It wasn’t long before the big players came knocking and in September of 2003 the band signed to Epic/Sony records. The bands fan base continued to multiply as the band spent the better part of the next 12 months on the road and now had 4 videos in rotation on MTV2. Chris was now well known in the scene for his playing ability and was termed “a landmark to judge all extreme players by” by Modern Drummer.

A DVD (Terror and Hubris 2003) followed highlighting the bands precise and energetic concerts and incorporated humorous behind the scenes footage of Chris and the band. The DVD debuted at #32 on the DVD Top 200 Billboard charts.

On August 31, 2004 the band released its current full length offering Ashes of the Wake. Once again, Chris’s playing continued to evolve, this time branching further into progressive territory with more unusual and stylistic choices throughout the recording. The album’s first week sales landed the #27 spot on the Top 200 Billboard Charts. Chris and the band were finishing up their summer headlining appearance on the Second Stage of the 2004 Ozzfest when the record was released and are now preparing for a headlining Fall tour and a Winter tour of the UK.

Gregg Bissonette is best known for his ability to play in a wide variety of styles. Gregg has played with Joe Satriani, Gino Vannelli, Tania Maria, Brian Wilson, Robin Zander, David Lee Roth, Ringo Starr, James Taylor, Toto, Ray Charles, Don Henley, Santana and many others.

Another highlight of his career was being invited to perform on the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert and video. Gregg also has two instructional videos: "Private Lesson" and "Playing, Reading and Soloing With A Band." Both videos have been made into books with play along music and are available on DCI. Gregg also has two solo CDs, Gregg Bissonette and Submarine, which he did with his brother Matt.

Gregg recently played on Santana's Grammy winning album, Supernatural, and the song "El Farol" which was named "Best Pop Instrumental" at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

Gregg recently completed a spring 2003 tour with Ringo Starr, to which he admits "was one of the greatest musical highlights of his life."

Gregg joined the MAPEX family in May 1997 and is strong international spokesperson for MAPEX, conducting dozens of clinics worldwide every year.
